The Game of Self-Harm: Same Game, Different Levels
We’ve heard the saying before: We all have baggage. Some people have baggage regarding their home lives or personal relationships. There are people who have dealt with the death of a loved one or a painful disease. No matter the case, everyone has something that clings to them and hands them anxiety from time to time. Some people can handle those situations well, while others become angry or destructive towards themselves and others. Sometimes baggage can cause self-harm.
The main point is that even the calmest, most put-together person has baggage and we all must remember that before judgments are made and comments are thrown.
The Game of Self-Harm
Some people see life as being one big game. There are barriers and hurdles that must be jumped on a daily basis before finally making it to the next level. In truth, we are all on our own in this game and those barriers we jump only we can find a way over. When it comes to self-harm, we each have our own reasons for self-harm. However, many people don’t take time to realize that we each have our own stories when it comes to our baggage and personal struggles.
People tend to overlook the difficulties everyone has and focus on what they need from those people. Bullies never think about the hardships those they target have gone through before mentally, emotionally and sometimes physically harming them. They never think for a moment that they could be a reason someone turned to self-harm.
We All Battle Different Devils
During one of my nightly adventures on Pinterest, I came across a quote that instantly grabbed my attention. It made me think about how we don’t always take the time to recognize the struggles others could be fighting. For some, the quote may be somewhat offensive, but it has an important message:
“We’re all in the same game – just different levels.
Dealing with the same hell – just different devils.”
I’m not sure who wrote this quote, but whoever it was – they had a legitimate point. We are all struggling, but struggling in our own unique way. For those who self-harm, we are all battling the same kind of addiction. However, each battle is personal and specific to us. No one is on the same level when it comes to self-harm because everyone’s fight is different.
The Triggers for Self-Harm
It can be difficult to stop and think about the baggage those around you are carrying because we typically focus on ourselves first. It’s important to be selfless once and a while before making a hurtful comment or acting negatively. Think about your actions before judging others and throwing daggers. Because sometimes the daggers you throw can trigger someone to make an unsafe decision.
Don’t be that trigger.
