The Power of Habit: Patience, Perseverance, and Peace
There's power in habit. Habit creates your life. People who live a blissful life do not possess unique character traits that separate them from everyone else. They do not have more luck or brains or money. What people who live a blissful life do possess are powerful habits, and these habits help sustain joy and fulfillment regardless of what is happening in their life.
Habits are regular practices, behaviors carried out in order to achieve a desired goal. They are put into place to help the individual manifest the kind of life they envision for themselves. For example, if your goal is to be physically fit, then your habits would include regular exercise, eating well, and living a healthy lifestyle.
What Power Habits Create Bliss?
People who live a blissful life share at least three powerful habits that form the foundation of their bliss. They practice patience, perseverance, and peace. These are qualities we can all learn and enjoy, habits we can incorporate to help us live more blissful lives.
Patience
Patience is the ability to tolerate suffering without getting upset. This is key to living a blissful life, because if you are patient, you are able to roll with the punches and learn to ride the waves rather than drown in them.
Perseverance
Perseverance is the ability to continue doing something despite its difficulty. Instead of giving up or giving in when things aren’t going well, people who live a blissful life are steadfast. They continue moving forward in order to reach their goal.
Peace
Peace is the ability to stay calm in spite of outer turmoil. Rather than reverting to negative behaviors or (over)reacting emotionally to situations, blissful people cultivate an inner ease about life. They smile instead of getting angry. They breathe deeply instead of fuming.
Integrate Power Habits into Your Life
Take time to reflect on what this looks life in the real world. How will you respond when you are late for work, you are frustrated, or your child, spouse, or colleague is pushing your buttons? What can you do to nurture bliss? Can you meditate, breathe deeply for five minutes, or go outside and be inspired by nature?
Living a blissful life is not easy. It is a journey. But if you are reading this blog, then you are probably interested in how to achieve bliss and cultivate sustained, personal joy. I maintain that it can be done by using the power habits: patience, perseverance, and peace.
