Talking About My Bipolar Disorder with My Dad
When my symptoms of bipolar 2 disorder increased, it was hard for me to be honest with my father; even though we always had a close relationship.
After my hospitalization and diagnosis of bipolar 2 disorder, it was all about moving forward. My father and I rarely discuss the time before my diagnosis and mental health in general. Recently, we went on a trip together, and, for the first time, open up about life prior to and after my diagnosis of bipolar 2 disorder.
I hope you’ll watch. It really provides insight into how many parents of children with mental illness are trying to do their best, even if they make mistakes along the way. This is why we need more open discussion and education about mental health.
If you’re a parent of a child with mental illness, I’d like to hear about your experience. You can do a response video and send it to: info @ healthyplace.com - or comment below.
And if you have bipolar disorder and would like to share your perspective on how your parents dealt with your mental illness, I’d like to hear from you too.
