Bipolar Disorder Recovery. Really?!

Bipolar recovery is a term I try to stay away from when talking about my life with bipolar 2 disorder. In fact, I think it’s destructive and misleading to those who are dealing with bipolar disorder.

The dictionary defines “recovery” as a return to a normal state of health, mind, or strength. When I hear it, I think of someone who is recovering from a broken arm by going to physical therapy or someone who is recovering from bronchitis by using the proper antibiotics.

I have accepted my bipolar disorder, not as a temporary condition, but as a long-term, chronic disease. It will not disappear from my life no matter how well I manage it. It isn't about recovering from bipolar disorder or an episode; it is about managing it to the best of my ability.

In this video, I explain further what recovery and bipolar disorder mean to me.

What does recovery mean to you? Do you think you can be in recovery with bipolar disorder? Please share your experience below or do a response video and send it into info@ healthyplace.com. See you next week!
